As Western Australia’s largest fishing club the MAAC has a very active angling division. The Angling & Sports Division “A & S” run monthly fishing competitions for small boats and larger boats offshore. Boats launch early Saturday morning and upon completion of the competition, competitors return to the club for the weigh-in in the Boatshed at 4pm.  After the weigh-in a BBQ is usually held in the boatshed for participants, their families and club members to attend – all are welcome!

The “A & S” also compete in a number of interclub fishing competitions during the course of the year. Most of these competitions are in the Perth area but there are several regional competitions including Jurien Bay and the South West where the “fishos” can test their skills out of their home waters.

All members are welcome to join in – please contact the office on 08 9447 1733 or enquiries@maac.com.au

Events and Interclub Competitions

The MAAC hosts and participates in a number of special events and interclub fishing competitions during the course of the year. These are always great fun and an opportunity to bring out the competitive spirit.

MAAC Events

The Blue Water Open Fishing Classic is held in February each year at the MAAC and is the largest competition in Western Australia. The competition was first held in 1985 and attracts around 700 competitors who fish for prizes worth over $40,000. It is our only public fishing competition in which non-members can compete.

The next BWC will be held on Saturday 15th February 2020 with the reserve day on Sunday 16th February.

On ANZAC Day the club holds the Wally Lothian Memorial fishing competition with the emphasis more on fun and mateship than winning. There is a dawn service and sail past the club at 8am and all boats fish close to shore and the competition is finished by 12noon. Members are welcome to bring a guest to fish alongside them in this social competition.

The fish are then cleaned and a few of the members cook the catch, which is shared amongst the members and with a few drinks a great day is assured.

Interclub Competitions

The Patron’s Cup is a competition between Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and the MAAC. The competition has been going for over 20 years and the MAAC has only lost on 4 or 5 occasions.

Click here for a copy of the Patron’s Cup Rules.

The competition is held once a year –but alternates between Jurien Bay one year and Perth the next.

State Boats is an annual boat fishing competition held on a rotation basis at various clubs around the state. This is the opportunity for boat fishing people to prove their ability against the best in the state. The MAAC has been very successful in this competition over the years.
Next competition date: Saturday, 21st March 2020. Fishing from Hillarys Marina.
